How much time do you spend on Keyword Research?

If you are setting up a website for your business there are two words that will make or break your online website. Those two words are Keyword Research.  This is probably one of the most important things that a business owner can do, to make sure they are found on google and other search engines. Since I started building websites for most small business owners, the vast majority have not thought much about this.

Have you? Is this the first time you’ve heard of this term before? Have no fear, I’m here to help you.

Do You Understand Keyword Research?

The very first thing I feel is important is that you understand that we understand Keyword Research even if you do not. While we can offer you information on it – that is really what you’re paying for when you hire us for business consultation. At some point in our talks, this topic will come up. It matters a great deal.  Believe it or not it’s very easy for people to find your business if they know the name of your company.

It’s even easier if the name of your company or website is unique. However the truth is most people who you want, are people who do not know you and have never heard of your website. The chances of them typing in your domain name, or the name of your business are almost non-existent.  So this is where having an understanding of keyword research comes in.

You can do this yourself, or hire a professional to do this for you. It’s actually not very hard to do, however a professional will be able to find the right keywords for you. What are you selling? What are you Marketing? How Can knowing the right words help your bottom line??

How Can Keyword Research Help You?

The main way it will help you to take time to do keyword research, or hire someone to do this for you is how it will impact your bottom line. As is usually the case, this is just one of several aspects of your business that matters. Try not to get sucked in to thinking one thing is more or less important than something else. It all matters. Once we find out the right keywords, there is a lot we will do with them.

This ultimately is a conversation on SEO – or Search Engine Optimization.

What is important for you to understand is this. There are literally millions of websites on the internet; and more new websites go up every single day. Search Engines have to figure out which websites have relevant information, and which ones do not. Sadly, most of these search engines won’t do this entirely on their own. Much of what SEO is about, is helping search engines find you, so that the people you want to serve, can find you.

So, back to keyword research.

When we sit down to talk about your business, this is going to be one of the first things we go over. I’ll want to know as much about your business as possible so that I can make the right recommendations. Then I’ll start looking into keywords that have the potential to bring you the most traffic. Because you see, ultimately isn’t that what it’s all about?

Keyword Research helps you find the right person for your product or service.

If I want to find an affordable cell phone plan, I am not going to look up cell phone companies by name. Instead I am probably going to type something into a search engine like ‘save money on my bill’ – or even ‘affordable cell phone plan’ – believe it or not I actually helped a client get a #1 page ranking for that keyword. Their video is still holding onto a page #2 ranking on google; and still has a page #1 on youtube.

Our client moved on to keywords that garner even more traffic – that one was just practice – and this is all part of what we do for our clients. This is what we’ll do for you. We’ll research the keywords that are bringing in traffic – and help with the SEO To make sure people find you.
